Thyroid and Breast Surgery Department is the largest surgical diagnosis and treatment center for thyroid and breast diseases in northeast Sichuan, which is the first national standard diagnosis and treatment quality control center for breast cancer, the national clinical key specialty, the key discipline of Sichuan Province, and the graduate training base of North Sichuan Medical College. At present, the hospital has 4 professors (chief physicians), 2 associate professors (deputy chief physicians), 3 attending physicians, 5 resident physicians, 3 doctors, 11 masters, 2 deputy chief nurses, 10 chief nurses. In addition, there are international lymphedema therapists, and nurses specializing in intravenous therapy, severe disease, cancer, emergency, diabetes, hemodialysis, orthopedics, and rehabilitation nursing, a total of 28 people, with a total of 42 medical care. The annual average number of outpatient visits is about 72,000, and currently 61 inpatient beds are opened, and more than 6,000 patients are treated every year, and more than 3,000 cases of various operations are performed.
Our department has advanced diagnosis and treatment equipment such as minimally invasive surgery and biopsy system for breast and thyroid gland, milk duct scopy system, 3.0T MRI of breast, mammography camera and localized puncture biopsy system, high-frequency ultrasound and localized puncture biopsy system of breast, three-dimensional ultrasound of breast and real-time fluorescence imaging sentinel lymph node imaging system. Our department routinely conducts early diagnosis and individualized treatment of breast and thyroid tumors. It was the first to carry out immunohistochemical and oncogene detection, primary and secondary reconstructive surgery for breast cancer, modified radical breast cancer with intercostal nerve preservation, sentinel lymph node biopsy and breast preservation surgery, minimally invasive breast surgery, subclavian artery intubation interventional therapy, PICC, PORT catheterization chemotherapy, X-ray and ultrasound localization of breast lesion biopsy in northeast Sichuan province. Needle biopsy of thyroid tumors, intraoperative nerve exploration and parathyroid protection, endoscopic surgery and microwave ablation of thyroid tumors, and surgical treatment of primary or secondary hyperparathyroidism were also performed. These have greatly improved the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid and breast diseases.
At present, the department undertakes a number of scientific research projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation, Sichuan Provincial Health Commission, Sichuan Provincial Science and Technology Department, Sichuan Provincial Education Department, Sichuan Medical Association and so on. The research focuses on: proteomic study of breast cancer and screening of biological targets; research on molecular biology of triple negative breast cancer; research on the pathogenesis of micRNA in breast cancer; studies on the occurrence and development mechanism of thyroid tumors and so on. The department has also won the second prize of Sichuan Medical Science Award and the third prize of Nanchong Science and Technology Innovation Achievement Award, and has published more than 70 high-level papers in authoritative journals at home and abroad, of which more than 40 are included in SCI.
On October 29, 2012, the public welfare organization "Pink Ribbon of North Sichuan" was established in our department, aiming to help patients with breast diseases understand their condition and improve their confidence through psychological counseling, and also face the disease with a positive and optimistic attitude. At the same time, the department takes the prevention of breast diseases as the focus, and widely spreads the concept of "cherishing breasts and caring for health" in the society, which has won unanimous praise from patients, and also makes more patients join the team of volunteers.
Our department is a high-level diagnosis and treatment center integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research and prevention of breast thyroid (parathyroid) diseases. Its medical level is in the leading position in north Sichuan, deeply trusted by patients, and has gained a good reputation in the peer.
